Cement bricks or Clay interlock bricks designs for budget-home?

Originally, the term brick was used to describe a unit made of shaped clay, but with the advancement, in the construction industry and availability of multiple materials in the market, it is used to refer to any stone or clay based building unit. Cement bricks are a mixture of cement and sand, which are moulded and then cured at high humidity and temperatures to increase its strength. Certain mineral colours are added to produce cement bricks resembling clay. Clay bricks are made using natural materials which are mixed with water, moulded into the desired shape using machines, drying and firing.

Though people consider cement as a strong material for construction, clay has proven to be the best material with maximum strength to endure adverse weathers. To add to the strength, the new interlocking technique gives it ample strength for the construction of foundations, walls, pavements and roofs. Interlock bricks designs are the latest advancement in Clay bricks. Without the use of cement, these bricks are ‘locked’ against each other, to form a structurally smooth and stable wall.

Nowadays, the prices of sand are increasing exponentially, causing prices of cement to soar rapidly. Using interlock bricks designs can reduce the cost of constructing your dream home by almost half. Since there is no cement used and the time taken to produce clay bricks is comparatively less, the overall budget of the construction is highly reduced.

Some of the advantages that make the clay bricks best option for budget-home are:

  • Sand is not used for constructing the wall.
  • Being less heat-intensive and natural material, laterite retains coolness inside the house.
  • Less labour intensive and more time-saving as the Interlocking blocks need only be fitted to each other; instead of conventional cement mortar construction.
  • The Interlocking bricks can be salvaged without damage when the house is being dismantled in the future.
